The Ulun Danu Batur temple originally located down by the batur lake but during the 1920s it was built anew on the western rim of the crater near the town of Kintamani.

The temple located around 2 hours drive passing the Ubud village and around the lake of Batur. Ulun Danu imposing complex of nine temples where ukun danu means the head of the lake. the different temples in the complex thus reflect a concern with not only the invisible world but also the world of the living as well.

The biggest temple is the Penataran AGung Batur which also the principal temple with around five couryards. The Penataran Pura jati is related to the source of the temple on the western egde of the lake. Tirta Bungkah temple is related to the hot spring down by the lake, while the Taman Sari and Tirta Mas Mampeh are concerned with agriculture.

Sampian Wangi temple is dedicated to such crafts as weaving, sewing, the making of offerings and ceremonial cakes. Gunarali temple is where adolescent boys and girls can invoke help to develop their natural abilities and the last the Padang Sila temple consists of forty five stone shrines for the Gods and Goddesses of Ulun Danu Batur temple.
